Musical Beginnings
Ben started singing and playing guitar at the age of 8 years old. From that point, he soon started composing original songs. His dad had classical guitars at home, along with a collection of music songbooks from many styles of music. Armed with his dad's guitars and songbooks, he strummed his way through adolescence, living in 4/4 time, with an occasional 6/8 or 3/4 mixed in.
First Public Performance
At 16, Ben did what all rock and roll musicians are supposed to do: he dropped out of school. But ironically, it was upon his return to school a year later that he first started performing music. His English teacher, Mrs. Buchanan, knew that he played guitar and she suggested that he perform a love song for a Valentine's Day project. Taking up her suggestion, he nervously got up in front of the class and performed Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways". After receiving a positive reaction, he realized that music was in his future.
Since That Time
Since that time, Ben has played with many musicians, and has written a repertoire of original songs. Lately, his emphasis has been on developing new material, such as the songs featured on the music page of this web site.
